Legal & Policy Adviser

My client is a well-recognised New Zealand membership association with a national focus. They represent a variety of businesses in their specialist field, and pride themselves on delivering quality service, not only to their members but to the wider general public of NZ.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Law Graduate or a Lawyer with 1-2 years PQE to join this supportive and professional team.

Based in the Head Office, your role as Legal & Policy Adviser will see you work alongside your experienced Manager who is happy to mentor and teach. You will be tasked with providing sound legal advice, support and acting as a sounding board to internal teams as well as some external stakeholders.

Your role will see you:

  • Provide legal advice and support across the organisation
  • Provide support to the internal mediation team around consumer dispute resolution
  • Assist with consultation papers and the drafting of submission papers
  • Work across privacy, governance and intellectual property matters
  • Assist external members and refer them to necessary support as required
  • Review, revision and drafting of documents
  • Liaise with external Counsel and other external service providers
  • Interpret legislation, rules and bylaws and provide recommendations
  • Undertake high quality research and analysis
  • Assist with developing internal policies and processes

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • A Graduate with a Bachelor of Laws or 1-2 years PQE
  • Completion of Professional Legal Studies Course advantageous
  • Some relevant work experience will be advantageous
  • Proven experience in research and presenting findings
  • Sound attention to detail
  • Experience in developing professional relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to communicate effectively – written and verbal
  • Sound level of computer literacy required
